A Day as a 42 Student

Take a look at an example of a daily schedule for a student at 42 Heilbronn:

Hi, I'm Felix, hailing from Linz, Austria, and I've been a student at 42 Heilbronn since March. I stumbled upon 42 Heilbronn by chance through an advertisement on Instagram, and after a logic test and the intensive 4-week admission test (Piscine), I found myself in Heilbronn.

In summary, I'm extremely happy with my choice of programming school! The feeling of being able to work when it suits my daily rhythm, without having to conform to the schedules of 40 other people, is a dream come true. Finally, I want to emphasize how inclusive and understanding the students at 42 are. Never before in my life have I felt so at home and understood.

This is how Felix spends his day at 42 Heilbronn.

I wake up at 8:30 AM, have breakfast, pack my things, and walk 10 minutes to 42.

At this time, I'm often one of the first in the cluster (workspace), I log in to an iMac, and start working. Currently, there's a Piscine taking place at the school, which I'm assisting as an H.A.T. (Heilbronn Assistant Team). During this, I support the Pisciners on their journey through the 4 weeks.

As a software development student, I spend most of the day in front of the computer, so physical activity is very important to me. I usually head to the Calisthenics park, which is just a 10-minute walk from 42 Heilbronn, to get some exercise.

After the workout, I head to have lunch and then take a short lunch break.

I usually continue working until someone, like Patrick, asks if I'd be up for a game of table tennis. Even a brief physical activity can work wonders when you've been stuck on the same problem for 30 minutes and can't seem to make progress.

Evaluation While playing, I receive a notification on my phone reminding me of an evaluation at 4:00 PM. Evaluations are a fundamental aspect of 42. During these sessions, I review my peers to determine if they've understood the project they've just submitted, and if their project can withstand various test cases and function correctly. This takes about 30 minutes and is also a great opportunity for idea exchange.

Let's continue...

Thanks to the flexible system at 42, I also have the opportunity to work on my own start-up every day, applying what I've learned from the curriculum directly.

After 42, I can relax and go play volleyball, and unwind for the rest of the evening.
